How It Works

Research-informed insights, designed for families.

SmartRoo combines at-home, game-based eye-tracking with an AI-driven model informed by neuroscience research. The goal is to help parents notice meaningful patterns sooner, with clarity and less stress.

The Science That Guides SmartRoo

Autism research often explores how the brain responds to social and emotional cues, including attention to faces and familiar people.

SmartRoo highlights findings related to:

Fusiform Face Area (FFA) activity when recognising familiar faces

Amygdala involvement in socio-emotional processing, especially with emotionally significant stimuli

A broader implication that differences may sometimes relate to social motivation or interest in unfamiliar faces, rather than an inability to process social information

SmartRoo uses this research context to inform how it structures tasks and interprets at-home signals.

How SmartRoo Works

SmartRoo is designed to be simple, quick, and family-friendly.

Step 1: Set up at home

Use common household devices to gather everyday signals. No clinics or appointments needed.

Step 2: Play short, interactive eye-tracking games

Children engage with gamified activities while the system tracks eye movement patterns in real time. The intent is to gather consistent signals in a way that feels natural and low-pressure.

Step 3: Generate results quickly

SmartRoo processes the captured data and generates reports quickly, intended to deliver clear, easy-to-review output rather than long wait times.

Step 4: Use results to support next steps

Reports are designed to be shareable with professionals (for example, a family doctor, paediatrician, educator, or specialist) to support conversations and help families communicate observations more clearly.

What the AI does

SmartRoo uses a cloud-based algorithm to process the captured data, analyse visual behaviour patterns, and generate useful insights.

To keep this parent-friendly, the AI can be described in three simple roles:

Organises observations into consistent patterns over time

Summarises signals into readable outputs and visuals

Supports understanding by highlighting what may be worth attention (without making a diagnosis)

Built for parents and professionals

SmartRoo can support both family use and professional review.

Parent-facing experience

Easy-to-use interface

Results and reporting tools designed to be simple to interpret

Parent-facing experience

Timely pre-screening information

Collaboration with parents for added context

Options to track progress and intervention performance over time, where applicable

Note: SmartRoo is an early awareness support tool.

It does not diagnose and it does not replace professional evaluation. It is designed to help families capture clearer observations and feel more confident discussing concerns and next steps.
